Né au Chili, écolier en Australie, grandi en France puis mûri en Italie, Héctor Cabello Reyes arrive à Paris au milieu des années Pinochet. Il débute au théâtre à l'âge de 18 ans comme comédien, puis auteur et metteur en scène. Après 10 ans de scène, il commence à écrire pour la télévision : il réalise, joue, écrit pour La Grosse Emission sur Comédie!, puis pour Nulle Part Ailleurs sur Canal +. Après avoir écrit et mis en scène 2000 sketches en quotidien et en direct, il part écrire pour Jean Dujardin et Alexandra Lamy dans Un Gars et Une Fille. Enfin, un matin, sur un coin de table, il tombe sur une coupure de presse de 15 lignes. Dedans, il y a l'embryon de son premier scénario, Le Concert.
Depuis 2002, ses scénarios ont rassemblé en moyenne 1,4 millions de spectateurs par film : outre Le Concert, nominé aux César pour le meilleur scénario original, qui a représenté la France aux Golden Globes, et a réuni 5,5 millions de spectateurs dans le monde, il y a eu Retour chez ma mère (2,2 millions de spectateurs), sa suite, Un Tour Chez ma Fille, et d'autres succès comme Barbecue (la suite, Plancha, sort en 2022), Incognito, Bienvenue à Bord etc... Par ailleurs, 9 Mois Ferme d'Albert Dupontel, à l'écriture duquel Héctor Cabello Reyes participe, remporte, outre un succès public (2 Millions de spectateurs), le César du meilleur scénario original.
En 2017, il réalise 7 Jours Pas Plus avec Benoît Poelvoorde et Alexandra Lamy, puis Beaux-Parents, avec Josiane Balasko, Didier Bourdon et Bénabar, avec qui il il signe la pièce Je vous ecoute, mise en scène d'Isabelle Nanty. Après la France, elle est adaptée et jouée en Allemagne, au Canada et en Argentine.
En 2020, Héctor Cabello Reyes devient showrunner, et crée la série Rue des Condamnées pour France Télévisions (actuellement en développement).
Born in Chile, with some scholarship in Australia, raised in France with a great deal of Italian culture, Héctor Cabello Reyes arrived in Paris in the middle of the Pinochet years. He started in the theater at the age of 18 as an actor, then a playwright and a director. After 10 years on the stage, he began to write for television: he directed, acted, wrote for La Grosse Emission on Comédie! channel, then for Nulle Part Ailleurs on Canal+ channel. After having written and directed 2000 sketches daily for live TV, he left to write for Jean Dujardin and Alexandra Lamy in Un Gars et Une Fille. Finally, one morning, on a corner of the table, he came across a 15-line newspaper clipping. Inside, there is the embryo of his first screenplay, Le Concert.
Since 2006, its screenplays have gathered an average of 1.4 million spectators per film: in addition to The Concert, nominated for the César for the best original screenplay, which represented France at the Golden Globes, and gathered 5.5 million spectators around the world, there was Back to Mom's (2.2 million spectators), and its sequel Un Tour Chez ma Fille, and other hits like Barbecue (the sequel, Plancha, is to be released in 2022), Incognito, Bienvenue A Bord, etc... In 2017, he makes his debut as a director : 7 Jours Pas Plus with Benoît Poelvoorde and Alexandra Lamy, then Beaux-Parents, with Josiane Balasko, Didier Bourdon and Bénabar, with whom he signed the play Je vous ecoute, directed by Isabelle Nanty. After France, the play is adapted and performed in Germany, Canada and Argentina.
In 2020, Héctor Cabello Reyes becomes showrunner, and creates the series Rue des Condamnées for France Télévisions (currently in development).
